Big Flavors, Small Packages

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

As the saying goes, sometimes what you’re looking for is right under your nose; in my case it’s usually at the farmer’s market.

I believe that locally sourced ingredients play a key role in elevating a meal from an everyday occurrence to an extraordinary experience. When I can support other businesses in my area that are just as passionate as I am about what we do, the culinary possibilities, and collaborations, are endless. This week, I’d love to share with you two local vendors that offer small, but mighty additions to any dish.

The Little Green Garden, owned and operated by horticulturists Jad and Megan, offers a plethora of microgreens that will bring fresh flavor and picture-worthy aesthetic to any table they grace. Organically cultivated, there are seven nutrient-rich varieties available to choose from. This little green garden also has pops of bright red amaranth and dark purple radish to bring incredible flavor and color to your cuisine of choice.

From a show stopping entrée to a smoothie on the go - these microgreens are just the garnish for you. If you want to check them out for yourself, you can find them at the 2022 Spotsy Farmers’ Market from 8:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. through December 17th. You can also visit www.thelittlegreengarden.com to learn more, shop or even snag a kit to start your own microgreen garden!

For marine veteran Patrick Roche, a well-crafted meal starts long before the stove is ever turned on. Specializing in foraged mushrooms, Semper Fi Fungi offers what can be referred to as a “forest to table” flavor experience. Hidden throughout the trees and mountains of Virginia, there are hidden morsels waiting to be discovered and licensed mushroom forager Roche is just the man to do it. Semper Fi Fungi offers a variation of locally foraged mushrooms depending on the season and each one is packed with fresh flavor as well as many health benefits. Do you want a culinary adventure of your own?

Semper Fi Fungi also offers guided mushroom foraging treks throughout the vast Virginia forests. To book a foodie adventure, email semperfifungi@gmail.com. You can see the wild mushrooms for yourself at the 2022 Fredericksburg Farmers' Market from 7a.m. - 2p.m. through October.

With ingredients like these, every meal can be a special occasion. Michelle’s Table is proud to work alongside local vendors to bring the freshest ingredients and the most incredible flavors to your next event.
